About

Nelson Caron’s interest in golf course management dates back to his high school years.

In addition, Caron created The Pete Dye Scholarship Foundation, a 501(C) tax deductible organization, as a developmental internship program for young professionals with a passion for golf course maintenance. Teaching and mentoring up-and-coming professionals to excel in the industry is one of Caron’s favorite responsibilities. Previous interns have now successfully transitioned into their own independent positions in the turf industry at a wide variety of prestigious golf courses, including Augusta National Golf Club.

After work, he often gathered Bermudagrass sprigs from the rough at Hope Valley Country Club and brought them home to plant in his father’s yard. By the time his high school years were over, he had transplanted and grown enough Bermudagrass to cover his father’s entire property... He has been growing grass ever since.

An agronomist, with a Bachelor's of Science degree from North Carolina State University and with over 20 years of experience in golf course management and maintenance, Caron is currently the Director of Golf Course Maintenance at the Ford Plantation Club in Savannah, Georgia. During this time, Caron has demonstrated his agronomic and leadership talents by producing elite playing conditions. As a result, he is recognized as one of the industry’s leading golf course superintendents.
